To me, prayer is the joining of like minds in agreement for a certain outcome and or grateful feeling. To me, it means connection to divinity and the universe. Prayer is linking God within me to God of infinity. Sometimes prayer is as short as a question asked, then answered by the world around me. To others, prayer is something different. Everyone will ultimate pray in their own way or not pray at all. It's a very individualized action.
Quick Story
There is someone close to me that I speak with all the time. I pray for that person's well-being. I pray for their family all the time. When we talk, we come to an agreement on ideas, like a sort of prayer. That person was being sued for thousands of dollars of inherited from the corporation that operated a business before them at the same site. This had been going on for months and we hadn't talked about it. So, I didn't know. But we happened upon this topic of debt, and we came together and talked about what was said in the bible (that I'm not quite sure of because I don't really read the bible like that). But we agreed that things must work out for this person and their family because that was a promise in the bible - aka it's what God said. Later that day, I got the call that a giant portion of the amount being requested was forgiven. I don't remember the exact amount. I just how I felt in that moment - grateful and victorious! I felt like, 'YES!' Prayer works! For me prayer is not begging for help. For me prayer is thanking in advance and remembering the power of God and his universe. And when I forget and start to worry, I remind myself of moment like these in my life - moment where I felt like 'YES!' Prayer works!

What we know so far...
Prayer, like meditation, influences our state of mind, which, in turn, influences our "state of body". It reduces the experience of anxiety, elevates a depressed mood, lowers blood pressure, stabilizes sleep patterns and impacts autonomic functions like digestion and breathing. Further, in influencing our state of body-mind, prayer and meditation also influence our thinking. This prompts a shift in the habits of the mind, and, subsequently, patterns of behavior. These changes, in turn and over time, induce changes in the brain, further influencing our subjective and objective experience of the world and how we participate in it.
Activity I've used...
Join in prayer with your family or people with whom you feel close. Or create a ‘prayer stream’ where you bless each other and lift up someone in prayer.
