Mothers

Hopefully you enjoyed Mother’s Day

Even if you're not a mother yourself, you got here through one. And while motherhood doesn’t come with a true manual that explains the perfect ways to raise children, we can pause to appreciate that we are alive today—either because of or in spite of a mother.

I’m not a perfect mother. My mother wasn’t perfect either. And so the story goes. But part of our humanity is in our capacity to empathize, to forgive, and to learn the necessary lessons—so that our children might do just a little better than we did.

The funny thing about parents is this: they often try their best… but only if they don’t crumble under the weight of their own trauma. And honestly, I’ve never met a person who can say they’ve made it through life without any trauma. Isn’t that interesting? I think that’s part of what makes us human—experiencing hardship and still choosing to grow.

In my eyes, a mother is like a portal—bringing souls from the spiritual world into the physical one.

And while that might sound extreme to those who don’t believe we exist before or after this life, consider this:

In the womb, awareness begins. Consciousness begins.

We are so aware and attuned to our mothers that we feel and experience almost everything with them while we wait to be born.

It is truly a spectacular and extraordinary event. And nothing about motherhood—no matter the form—is simple. Some mothers choose to do it once. Some are only able to do it once.

And behind every choice or limitation is a story, often shaped by the mother’s mental and emotional health. I hope you were able to honor a mother.
