Imagine a Best-Case Scenario for the Day Imagine an awesome day. Everyday. What do you imagine before you start your day? Do you think about the worst things or the best things that can happen? What can imagination do for us?
The Science I Explored
A brain imagery study led by the University of Colorado Boulder and Icahn School of Medicine confirms that imagination is a neurological reality that can impact our brains and bodies in ways that matter for our well-being.[1]
All creation begins with a thought…If we keep thinking about making the future become a reality, we naturally begin to insert ourselves into the scene of our future.[2]
A Situation The educator wakes up in the morning and takes a deep breath. Before leaving the bed, this educator is thinking about the day’s routine—showering, breakfast, commute, timeliness, or lateness. Daily “Best Case Scenario” Method This is about allowing our imagination, which is an actual neurological activity, to work for us and not against us. Now, while still in bed, go through a list of the best possible outcomes in the situations you believe you will or would like to encounter. Quickly jot them down, then go on about your day. Look for, celebrate, and appreciate these moments as much as you can. Even if things don’t turn out exactly as imagined, decide to learn something about yourself and give your imagination another try. Do it again tomorrow morning before getting out of bed. And, even if you do not see the possibility of a good day, there are things you can say aloud (to yourself) to get yourself mentally prepared for your day. Say phrases like “I can do this,” ”I’ll be able to handle whatever comes my way,” “I am the good guy in my story,” ”I am loved and loving,” and ”I am trustworthy.” You can also look at yourself in the mirror and say these phrases (or similar self-boosting phrases) in third person. After which, you can go on with the routine of your day. Mental preparedness deserves to be part of the routine of your day. You deserve to be at peace because of your mental preparedness. Say it with me: “It’s my day and I’m going to make it how I like it.” Do you see it, your face in your mirror, boosting yourself?
