Believing God Within

Quick Story

When my preschool director told me I should incorporate and take over the school, my first response was 'no'. I didn't understand why she thought I should become the leader for the school. I spoke to my husband, and he reminded me of something my director didn't know - I had written down a vision statement for my own school before I started working for her. After a few months, I told her 'Yes'. And as I led my small school of 8 teachers, I had many moments where I had to go within and ask for help. I made up a short prayer, 'Thank you God, for flowing through me today." Then I would step in to complete whatever the challenging task that I was facing. It has always worked for me. And most times I remember to use this prayer in my home life and personal relationships.

What we know so far...

Having solid mental health doesn’t mean that you never go through bad times or experience emotional problems. We all go through disappointments, loss, and change. And while these are normal parts of life, they can still cause sadness, anxiety, and stress. But just as physically healthy people are better able to bounce back from illness or injury, people with strong mental health are better able to bounce back from adversity, trauma, and stress. This ability is called resilience.

Activity I've used to remember that God flows through me - I need only allow it.

Write about (or just recall) a time when you seem to have gained unexpected courage, overcome some adversity, or things worked out so well you were astounded. How do you feel about those situations? Do you believe that was God within you? Do you believe God is always within you?
Ask yourself: What am I really capable of? What is ready to be unleashed from me?

Answering these questions can be a useful reminder of your personal power to handle many situations. Not all. But many. There are times you will ask for help.
